Founded in the first half of 2015, Cooperate was set up to connect youths of differing academic backgrounds easily. In essence, Cooperate strives to pair up academically weaker students with youth volunteers with different strengths and expertise from various post-secondary institutions, for both academic tutoring and mentorship. We hope to inspire mentees to see their mentors as role models and friends, not mere academic tutors.
We believe that students, with their experiences of the rigour of Singapore’s education system fresh in their minds – are best equipped to help other students, as their shared experiences of coping with academics, social interaction and family relationships foster a mutual trust and openness to learning, motivating mentees to be more receptive. As such, Cooperate is essentially a mentoring and empowerment programme by youth, for youth.
